物理性质:硫代硫酸钠有无水硫代硫酸钠 (Na2S2O3) 和五水硫代硫酸钠 (Na2S2O3·5H2O)两种，后者又称大苏打和海波。分子量分别为158.11和248.18。无水硫代硫酸钠为不透明的结晶粉末。相对密度 1.667。无臭，味咸。易溶于水，不溶于乙醇。在酸性溶液中分解。具有较强的还原性。极易吸潮。五水合硫代硫酸钠为无臭、无色透明的单斜晶体或颗粒。相对密度1.685。熔点48℃。 100℃时失去全部结晶水，高于100℃时分解。在干热空气中易风化。在湿热空气中轻度潮解。易溶于水和松节油; 不溶于乙醇。遇强酸时分解。长时间暴露于空气中易被氧和二氧化碳氧化和碳化。
无臭，味咸。易溶于水，100℃时溶解度23lg/100ml水。不溶于醇。空气中易潮解。具有强烈的还原性，在酸性溶液中分解。加热即分解
